Again this course is divided into two. Alternate weeks are taken up with five garden visits and five lectures putting together the planting knowledge into planting plans and creating flower borders.
Garden visits: The five gardens that we.ll visit will all be within about an hours car journey from Plumpton College. The gardens that we visit may change from year to year as preferences change. The gardens that have been visited include, Sissinghurst, Great Dixter, Denmans, Plumpton Place and Clinton Lodge.
Garden visiting is an important and enjoyable part of understanding how a garden has been created. Trying to imagine what was there before the garden was created, can help in understanding just how imaginative or not the owner has been. Looking at how the garden owner has overcome the different levels within the garden can also give you ideas, perhaps for your on garden.
Planting Design and Planting Plans: In this term other sections of the plant kingdom will be discussed . including ferns, bamboos and ornamental grasses. The requirements of a planting plan will be examined and the step-by-step creation of a plan will be tutored.
The planting areas of the garden plan produced in the previous term will then be designed and a planting plan produced.
