This is an opportunity for your own professional development, you may wish to learn about a new aspect of design such as water gardens or perhaps you need help from a practicing designer with a garden you are designing. Choose any of the 36 days on the professional garden design course to study in an area that interests you.

Many of the lecturers are international garden designers who are at the forefront of their own specialist field. The specialist subjects will cover the following:

Water Gardening: The day will cover the areas involved in designing ponds, pools and lakes. On the technical side, information concerning types of liners, pumps and filters will be discussed along with the appropriate working drawings. Ecology of the pond and the micro organisms that are required to keep a pond clear will be covered so that future questions on this subject can be understood. Anthony Archer-Wills will be the lecturer who is currently working in America.

Planting: Trees, shrubs and herbaceous perennials will each be covered in a day. Others plants and their associations will include annuals and biennials, roses and climbers. Also the ecology of planting, shelter belts and how to deal with nurseries will be covered along with pricing for planting and drawing up planting plans and schedules. Peter Thurman is the lecturer who has travelled extensively and designed gardens as far away as Japan.

Studio days: These days can be useful in getting help with designing a particular garden. Students will be working on their projects but it could be that you need help with your garden or project. All studio lecturers are practising garden designers and understand the need for solutions to design problems.

Inspiration days: These days have been created specifically to help you design in a freer and looser manner. Jill Billington who has much experience in this field, being a lecturer, author and celebrated garden designer, will inspire you in the pure art of design.

All information can be found in the timetable of the prospectus for the Professional Garden Design Course. All applicants will need to book through the PD office at Plumpton and fill out a part time application form.
