Garden visiting is an important and enjoyable part of understanding how a garden has been created. Trying to imagine what was there before the garden was created, can help in understanding just how imaginative or not the owner has been. Looking at how the garden owner has overcome the different levels within the garden can also give you ideas, perhaps for your own garden.
We will visit 10 gardens over the summer term ranging from some old favourites like Sissinghurst and Great Dixter to some less well known gardens and some created by Nigel Philips your tutor, who is a practising garden designer.
All admissions are included in the price of the course and where possible the owner or head gardener will take us round.
You will be encouraged to take notes and perhaps do some simple sketches to help remind you of your visit and what it was that inspired you.
Visits will usually start with a coffee and a chance to talk through what we are about to see and what we have seen from the previous visit.
However you look at it, it's informative and good fun.
